Naples Children & Education Foundation Welcomes New Trustees
The Naples Children & Education Foundation (NCEF), founders of the Naples Winter Wine Festival, has added Lin and Herb Henkel, Cindy and Sam Scalise and Betsy Ryan and Patrick Zenner as Trustees. In this role, they will support NCEF’s vision of making a profound and sustaining difference in the lives of underprivileged children in Collier County.
“Our newest Trustees bring impressive and diverse backgrounds, which will contribute greatly to the broad range of expertise among our other Trustees,” said Valerie Boyd, NCEF Chairman of the Board. “Each of them also is a past patron of the Naples Winter Wine Festival and shares a deep and sincere commitment to supporting a wide array of charitable causes in the community.”
Lin and Herb Henkel have extensive and varied backgrounds at Fortune 500 global companies and have been patrons of the Naples Winter Wine Festival since 2018. Most recently, Herb was named Chairman of Herc Equipment Rentals. Previously, he served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Ingersoll-Rand Company and served in several leadership roles at Textron, Inc. Herb earned his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees at the Polytechnic Institute of New York and his MBA at Pace University, where he also received an honorary Ph.D.

Previously, she was Senior Vice President of Communications for Meritor, Inc. Lin received her Bachelor of Science and a Master of Arts degrees in speech and communications from Detroit’s Wayne State University.
Cindy and Sam Scalise, who have attended the Naples Winter Wine Festival since 2019, are in the building and real estate development business. Their portfolio includes the Surfside Pier in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and they recently completed a 60-acre oceanfront resort, the North Beach Resort & Spa. Sam, a graduate of West Virginia Tech, served on several boards, including BB&T. Cindy, who attended Penn State University, served on the board of Waccamaw Community Hospital and was active in animal rescue groups.
During their years in Myrtle Beach, the Scalise’s donated a home and built a building for the youth center of the Church of the Resurrection, an office building for the Waccamaw Community Foundation, plus three homes they sold with funds directed to children’s charities. Recently, they donated a home in Naples to Naples Community Hospital, which sold the property for $2.8 million and used the funds to remodel its emergency room and for a sculpture in its Garden of Hope.
Betsy Ryan and Patrick Zenner are generous philanthropists, as shown in their enthusiasm at past Naples Winter Wine Festivals, and are committed to community service. Patrick has more than 50 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/life sciences industry, including 32 years at Hoffmann-La Roche Inc., North America, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer from 1993 until his retirement in 2001. Patrick holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Creighton University and an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
Betsy graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a bachelor’s degree in English and a teaching certificate. Originally from New Jersey, Betsy moved to Radnor, Pennsylvania, where she raised three children while earning her master’s in theater at Villanova University. She taught theater to middle schoolers and taught several youth groups, including Sunday School and Girl Scout Brownies. Betsy was a patron of the arts in Pennsylvania, later in London, and now in Naples as well.
