Two Naples Families Transform Pines & Palms Resort in New HGTV Series
Renovation Island: The Adventure Continues Premieres Sunday, June 7, on HGTV
What started as a shared love of the Florida Keys is now a story the whole country is about to discover. Renovation Island: The Adventure Continues, a new six-episode series premiering Sunday, June 7, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV, follows multiple projects including two Naples families—the Reizens and the McKimms—as they take on the complete transformation of Pines & Palms Resort, a beloved four-acre oceanfront property in the heart of Islamorada.
Hosted by HGTV’s Bryan and Sarah Baeumler, the series documents every stage of the Pines & Palms renovation—from crumbling infrastructure and leaking roofs to a stunning coastal retreat that has redefined the guest experience in the Florida Keys.
FROM NAPLES NEIGHBORS TO RESORT OWNERS
Nick and Raynie Reizen and Chad and Katie McKimm first crossed paths in Naples in 2017 and quickly became inseparable. With six children between them and a shared love of boating, fishing, and escaping to the Florida Keys, the connection was instant.
Both families are rooted in Naples, but have long claimed Islamorada as their home away from home. Nick and Raynie, originally from Michigan, relocated to Naples before falling in love with the Keys and purchasing a weekend home in Islamorada. Chad—a Naples native who grew up making family trips down to the Keys—and his wife Katie, a Florida resident since 2004, did the same. When word spread in early 2022 that the beloved Pines & Palms Resort might be coming up for sale, both families felt the pull immediately.
After meeting the resort’s longtime owners, Jim and Sara Bernardin, and walking the property—with its lush tropical grounds, sweeping ocean views, and loyal guest following—the decision was easy. The families purchased Pines & Palms Resort in May 2022, and the adventure officially began.
“We had spent so much time in Islamorada over the years that it already felt like a second home. When the opportunity came up to be part of this community in a bigger way—to actually own a piece of it—we knew we couldn’t say no. It was terrifying and exciting all at once.”
— Raynie Reizen, Co-Owner, Pines & Palms Resort
A RESORT. A RENOVATION. A TELEVISION SERIES.
Owning a resort came with a steep learning curve—and a reality check. After a year of operation, the families realized the property needed far more than surface-level updates. Aging infrastructure, failing appliances, leaking roofs, and growing guest feedback pointed to one clear answer: Pines & Palms deserved a full-scale transformation.
“There were moments during construction when we truly wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. But watching this place come to life—seeing the vision finally become real—made every stressful day completely worth it. We’re so proud of what Pines & Palms has become.”
— Katie McKimm, Co-Owner, Pines & Palms Resort
Just as renovation plans were taking shape, the families were introduced to Bryan and Sarah Baeumler—the hosts of HGTV’s Renovation Island. With multiple hit series, a luxury boutique resort in the Bahamas, and Sarah’s acclaimed interior design brand to their name, the Baeumlers brought both a proven renovation playbook and a national television platform to the partnership. What started as a single meeting quickly became a friendship, a creative collaboration, and—ultimately—a television production. Construction officially kicked off in July 2024 and wrapped in December 2024, with the Baeumlers’ crew on-site to capture every high, every setback, and every hard-won breakthrough.
“At Pines & Palms, my goal was to breathe new life into each space while keeping its charm and character intact. We wanted it to feel effortlessly inviting—where coastal comfort meets laid-back luxury. It’s all about creating a place where guests can slow down, soak in the surroundings of the Florida Keys, and truly unwind.”
